      Vessabhu Buddha


Vessabhu was the Buddha who was in the Pali tradition  considered to be as the twenty-first Buddha. He was born in Anoma. The name of his father was Suppatthita and of the mother Yasavati. He was called as Vessabhu because when born he shouted like a bull. The name of his wife was Suchitta; and of the son was Suppabuddha.

He lived for more than six thousand years as an house-holder and lived in three palaces, which was namely as, Ruchi, Suruchi and Vaddhana. He refused to live in the home on a golden palanquin; and practised asceticism for only six months. Just before his illumination he accepted the milk-rice from Sirivaddhaa. Naga king Narinda had prepared his seat on the grass.

The tree under which he achieve his illumination was the Sal. He carry his first oration to his brothers Sona and Uttara, who became his chief followers. His chief attendant was Upasanta. Sotthika and Rama among men and Gotami and Sirima among the women were his chief clients.

He died in Khema Rama at the age of sixty thousand years.

The Bodhisatta lived as king of Sarabhavati and had the name Sudassana during the time of Vessabhu Buddha.
